Team RTG Celebrates Veterans at Celebrity Co-ed Softball Game Benefiting Carry the Load

What better way to spend Memorial Day weekend than to honor and pay it forward to our U.S. veterans, military families, first responders, and active-duty military personnel? RTG proudly decorated and donated the players’ Under Armour jerseys and gear, and several of us attended the game to support the cause as well.

With players including Dallas Cowboys player Michael Irvin, Hollywood actor Jacob Schick, Vietnam war hero Shilo Harris, and many more at the diamond at Airhogs Stadium in Grand Prairie, Texas, there was plenty of action and good-natured swagger. The red team ultimately earned bragging rights. However, the real winner of the day was

local non-profit Carry the Load, the beneficiary of proceeds from ticket and gear sales, donations, silent auction, and raffle.

This was the first of what promises to be an annual Memorial Day tradition to benefit an organization and its work on behalf of our veterans. Carry the Load was founded in 2011 by two veteran Navy Seals as a 20-hour, 11-minute Memorial March in Dallas. The goal was to remind the public about the meaning of Memorial Day. In 2012, it expanded to include an East Coast relay; participants walked from West Point, N.Y. to Dallas. In 2016, a West Coast Relay from Seattle to Dallas was added to the mix. By 2017, Carry the Load was sponsoring Memorial Day rallies in 50 U.S. cities. The same year, Carry The Load launched Carry The Flag -- an educational program to inspire patriotism within K-12 students. The Memorial Day Awareness campaign has raised more than $17M to support Carry The Load’s Continuum of Care program.

Required Team Gear is proud to support nonprofits, local fundraisers, and worthwhile charities of all sizes. Next up – Team RTG will head to the U.S. Department of Defense Warrior Games. We proudly decorated the gear wounded warriors will wear as they compete for a championship title, and we will be on-site to support our heroes in person. Stop by and join us in cheering on warriors from around the globe the week of June 24 in Tampa Bay!
